Mossflower is currently in its spring season. As the frost thaws and the days warm up everybeast is excited about the coming summer. Redwall Abbey has remained in a state of peace and calm, and with harvests good and spirits high, nobeast is particulary worried. Vermin sightings have decreased over the seasons and for the most part, trouble has been slim at best. Some say its thanks to the Long Patrol and their constant presence, but really? No one knows for certain.
Salamandastron too is in a state of calm, but recently its been accompanied by a growing tension. It's been far too long since a Badger Lord sat upon the throne of the great mountain, and as the days tick away the hares grow worried. It having been so long since the last, real vermin threat...something must be growing, waiting on that horizon. The peace cannot last and they worry that with these slow seasons, mayhap their skills are not as honed as they used to be.
But still...it is the heart of spring, and summer soon approaches. Redwall prepares it's summer season feast and all of Mossflower looks forward to a bountiful season.
And for the moment, that is all that is on anybeast's mind.
But trouble brews on that horizon... An increase of corsair activity, reported by the roving sea otter clans nearest Mossflower country, bodes ill for anybeast nearest the shore. With sightings of more and more ships, and countless attacks, the Long Patrol worries it might get worse before it gets any better. Hoping to help take care of the issue, they issue twoscore soldiers to serve on the otter vessels to help contain the problem.
But who knows how it'll turn out...?
